It seems we carry more and more valuable things around with us without thinking about it.
Coffee Trunk Table
Cash in your wallet or purse; credit cards, laptops and cell phones are just some of the everyday items that are sorely missed if they are stolen here are some tips to protect whats yours.
All these possessions might seem very valuable to you in this day and time, but according to the police the best advice for hanging on to your possessions is "only take what you need with you".
They suggest you learn to minimize the amount of possessions you carry with you. If you don't need laptop, don't leave in plain sight in the car. Its great you have cash and credit cards, but don't flash them around or flaunt them around hold ups and credit card fraud are good reasons why you should keep those to your self.
Keep your purse or wallet somewhere where you are aware of it. Ladies one of the most popular crimes going on right now it lifting purses in grocery carts. This is when you are at the grocery store not paying attention someone will steal your purse while your get a jug of milk. The worst thing about this crime is lots of women won't notice till its time to pay. Ladies leave your purse in the car trunk and take your cards or cash in your with you in your pocket. Men check every now and then to make sure you still have your wallet on you, but don't make this too obvious as pickpockets can spot you doing this.
Likewise, keep your cell phone out of sight - in the age of the smart phone cell phones are very valuable and a crook can make a quick 0 for your phone. If your going to the gym leave it under the seat in the car or somewhere it cant be seen. Never leave it locker that's not locked, crooks love locker rooms its easy pickin. Students be aware that back-pack style bags are especially vulnerable to thieves.
Do not leave your bag unattended in a public place, such as in a pub, coffee bar or shop. Similar to women in grocery stores leaving there purses in grocery carts, Many people will have there laptop on the table at the library, book store or coffee shop and go to the rest room or get a drink and come back to find that there laptop is gone and even the bag with it.
The last tip and a very important one if anything is ever stolen from you, Keep receipts and tag everything. Getting serial numbers and tagging your property can recover anything a thief may try to pawn. Believe it or not crooks are still dumb enough to try to pawn items and they get caught everytime.
If something is stolen, go to the nearest police station or call the police non emergency number. Remember having those serial numbers can make a difference between you getting your items back.
