Jay Leno is a well known stand up comedian and a television host. He was born in New York, on 28th April 1950 as James Douglas Muir Leno to parents Catherine, a homemaker, and Angelo, an insurance salesman. They were of Scottish and Italian heritage. He is heard commenting more on his Italian heritage. Leno grew up in Massachusetts and suffered from dyslexia. Although he later went on to earn a Bachelor Degree in Speech Therapy from Emerson College, Boston in 1972.
He married Mavis Leno in 1980. They met at one of his performance in a club in Los Angeles. He began his career working in clubs in the nights before hitting it big on the screen with his show "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno". Before landing in his own talk show he used to write for in the 1970s series "Good Times". His first television debut is considered to be the "Merv Griffin Show". He also made his acting debut in 1977 in "Silver Bears". But he left his acting career since he was been highly sought out for his stand up comedies. He did indeed appear in films later but portraying himself or as his own parody version.

He succeeded Carson in 1992 to host this show and in that show his first guest was comedian Billy Crystal. He made history by having Barack Obama on his show "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" marking it as the first television talk show to have a sitting President appear as its guest.

He sold his Harley Davidson, which was signed by his guests in his show, in an auction to collect money to help victims of the 9/11 attacks. He also writes columns on automotives in Popular Mechanics and in The Sunday Times giving a humorous yet knowledgeable take on them.
