Are You A Beach Bum? Love Tanning? Take Our Quiz To Find Out!

Does the idea of a vacation sound like an appalling loss in office productivity? Or does the idea of work sound like those temporary, dreary hours when you're not tanning at the beach? Ten questions will give you the answer to this most important question.

Coffee Trunk Table

1. You're playing golf with your boss. Right now you're thinking:

Coffee Trunk Table

a. I need to make this putt to impress him. Then I'll be around when he discusses the plans for the new account. I must show him I am capable and ready to be the project lead!

b. I need to make this putt to impress him. Then I'll be around when they go for drinks tonight. His wife is hot. I hope she'll be there!

c. Wherz da flag? Man oh man, I shouldn't'f sloshed down that sixth beer! Hey, that shand trap looks like a great place to catch some rays.

2. It's time for coffee break. But you're still in that meeting. What do you do?

a. It doesn't even cross your mind, because it would be completely irresponsible to think of such a trivial thing while contributing to next year's budget projections.

b. You feel the aroma of the coffee pot through the door, and you struggle to keep your attention on the sales figures. Still, coffee. Mmm.

c. The bell for coffee wakes you up into jarring reality. The sounds of the gentle surf is replaced by the irritating droning of some guy with a pointer. You excuse yourself and drowsily leave the room.

3. It's your Caribbean-themed office party! However, you notice that the social committee is completely clueless as to what constitutes a Caribbean party. You:

a. Politely ignore the plastic flamingos in the corner and sip on your non-alcoholic beer. You straighten your tie before striding boldly to the higher management table.

b. Smirk at the deflated plastic palm trees and raccoon stuffed animals and make a mental note to join the social committee next year to do things properly - by taking a vacation for "educational" purposes.

c. Plop yourself down on the inflatable tube you brought, then spike your Coke with a flask of Jamaican rum you smuggled in. Rub tanning lotion over your body, and politely ask a co-worker to do your back.

4. That cute co-worker is constantly eyeing you. You're interested too, but office romance is strictly forbidden. You:

a. Report sexual harassment to human resources. There, problem solved, especially if it means a promotion!

b. Arrange for a romantic evening outside work, but avoid all eye contact while working.

c. Arrange for a wild, passionate tryst in the server room!

5. You're lounging in the Caribbean, quietly sipping your drink, when suddenly you wake up and you're still at your desk, in the middle of writing audit reports! You:

a. Shake your head and chastise yourself for falling asleep, and hope nobody noticed.

b. Pout softly, then surreptitiously check the Internet for travel deals. Make a mental note to buy tanning lotion on the way home.

c. Scream.

6. In order to get the project done, you have to work Saturday. But there's a big party Friday night! What do you do?

a. Call one of your friends and say you can't make it, because you have to work tomorrow. Emphasize the word ‘work' to shame them into becoming responsible adults like yourself.

b. Go to the party, but leave early, sighing about your heavy workload and inviting pity drinks from your friends.

c. What project? Six beers will destroy that silly idea about working through the weekend!

7. "The implementation of our strategic application is conducive to the progressing interaction of our structured workflow." This statement means:

a. "Implementing our dedicated investment supports the core evolution and functionality of our strategic vision." What's not to understand?

b. "Buying new crap keeps our old crap working."

c. Just a sec . . . looking up "implametashun."

8. The company is introducing a new logo. Management says the stylized palm tree and two coconuts at the base of the trunk symbolizes their relaxed and co-operative relationship with clients. Everybody is asked what they think of it. You:

a. Write a detailed analysis emphasizing the beauty and fitting nature of the logo, and applaud the advertising agency for a job well done.

b. Laugh with your co-workers at the obvious similarity to a certain part of the male anatomy.

c. Begin drawing exceptionally rude additions on the logo, symbolizing relationships of a different nature.

9. Congratulations, you've been promoted to middle management! More hours, more responsibility, a bit more cash. You:

a. Puff with pride and self-importance, polish your new mahogany desk and anticipate twice as many meetings. Your statements to underlings begin to go something like "Yeeeaah, hi, I'm going to ask you to come in on Saturday . . ."

b. Ask for a lot more money first, plus an extra two weeks vacation, stating that increased responsibility and stress needs such compensation.

c. Wake from such a horrible dream. Vow to never again play that "Middle Management " card game!

10. You have 6 weeks of vacation to use, because you haven't been taking any for the last couple of years. Management says you can either take it or convert it for 1 regular paycheck. How do you react?

a. Laugh at such an impossible scenario, because not only do you take full vacations every year, you often call in sick for a week and hire "Rent-A-Sick Buddy" to cover for you while you lounge in Jamaica!

b. You take the paycheck and continue working. (Now you can sock away more money to buy that limited 17th century replica still-life painting of fruit!)

c. You scoff at yourself, pack your bags, and begin the best and most needed 6 weeks of your life!

For each answer from 1 - 9:

For every A answer, give yourself 1 point.

For every B answer, give yourself 2 points.

For every C answer, give yourself 4 points.

Question 10 was a trick! Give yourself 5 for A (for exceptional style!), -1 for B (come on now, fruit??), and 2 for C (don't do that again, you silly workaholic!).

How you Rate:

Less than 15: You live to work, and a board meeting is the thrill of your life. You just can't wait to impress your boss with your awesome PowerPoint presentation! It's taken weeks to prepare the 78 screens! Thankfully, nobody invites you to parties. Who has time for those?

16 to 19: You worship florescent lighting. The hum and flicker of white light, and how it accents the grey cubicle walls is the definition of the highest art form. However, you felt a bit sad when the boss moved you from the window to the middle of the office, and took your stapler.

20 to 25: You love nothing better than to walk through a group of shivering, pale people with your suntan. Did you go to a tropical destination in the middle of winter? Did you cheat and go to a tanning salon? You'll never tell.

26 to 30: Nice wireless laptop! You obviously have one, because you're certainly not reading this at a desk. You only happened upon this page because you need to order a second swimsuit, preferably one that lets in the tanning rays. Careful with that margarita, you don't want to waste it by accidentally spilling it all over your keyboard again!

30 and above: Thank god your uncle left you all that money so you can afford to live at the resort! You shudder at what might have been - actually having to work a desk job at some soul-sucking corporation. Or is this a dream, and you don't actually have a rich uncle who passed away? Best not think of those things, just enjoy the now.

A Sample Fundraising Letter You Can Copy

If you've been asked to write a letter to help with fundraising for a group or charity that you're involved with, you may be staring at a blank piece of paper wondering just what to write.

Coffee Trunk Table

Here's an actual letter that was used to raise a substantial sum towards a refit of church equipment and was sent to local trusts and grant-making bodies.

Coffee Trunk Table

It's important to keep your letter to just one page, with supporting information of no more than two pages. Include one photo if you wish and if it's relevant.

Don't resort to begging, but write an informative letter which helps the donor to understand what your projects aims and goals are.

Although this is an actual letter, names and information has been changed, for obvious reasons.

Dear Mr Bentley

I am writing to Bentley Charity Trust on behalf of Finedown Baptist Church, as your guidelines indicate that you offer support for churches.

Finedown is a rapidly growing town situated in central Flintshire. It has a thriving business centre, with some of the top financial companies in the country being based locally.

We have a thriving youth group for local young people. We have a 68 members and offer services in both the morning and evening.

The church building is used by a number of different local groups because of its good acoustics, this includes the Watley Moor singers and the Big Down band. We also host activities such as yoga, fitness club and local coffee mornings for the local community.

We refitted our entrance seven years ago. However, the entrance doors are now in need of substantial repair if we are to be able to continue using them and welcoming in the community. The estimated cost of this work is £9995.

We have already raised the sum of £7900 through our fundraising efforts but need a further £2095 to be able to carry out the necessary work.

As a Trust that is interested in supporting and preserving buildings which are of value to the local community, we would be most grateful if you could consider assisting us with this project.

Please feel free to call me on 1234 678910 if you would like any further information.

Yours faithfully,

Jen Carter

Chair of the Fundraising Committee

Do ensure that you print this on headed paper, if you have it.

It's important that it's signed by the person whose name is on the bottom of the letter, this is not the time to be in a hurry and "pp" the letter on someone elses behalf.

If you would like an acknowledgement that your application for funding has been received, add a stamped, self-addressed postcard or envelope.

Only send off letter to trusts that offer funding in your area and your type of project.

Once you've sent off your applications, be patient! Most of these boards only meet every two or three months, so it may be some time until you hear whether or not you've been successful.

If you are offered a grant, always write and say thank you. Write again once the project is up and running to let them know of your progress.

My Weight Loss Story - Just Stop Eating Before You Get Too Full

When I was in high school, I was a little fat even though I was very active on a basketball team. I always wondered why I was a little big. My parents believed that I was overeating and suggested to me that I change my eating habits.

Coffee Trunk Table

As soon as I came back from basketball practice in school, I was so hungry that I kept eating until I got too full. I was sometimes so full that I couldn't move, and I had to lie down on a sofa for a while. My dad saw me lying on a sofa every evening, and he finally told me that I needed to control myself and that I should wait for a few minutes before asking for more food.

Coffee Trunk Table

I was eating too fast during the dinner and I needed to slow down. Studies show that it takes twenty minutes for the brain of an average person to know if they have eaten enough or not. The reason I ate too much was that I didn't wait long enough to see if I was really hungry.

I was always hungry when I got home from school every evening. I decided to bring healthy snacks to eat before and after the practice. By doing so, I felt less tired during the practice and I wasn't very hungry afterward. Since I was not hungry when I got home, I was able to eat dinner slowly.

Sometimes, I went back to my old habit of eating fast and asked for more food. My mom told me to wait for ten minutes and see if I was still hungry. Most of the time, I started to feel full after a few minutes and I didn't have to eat any more. I really appreciated the support from my mom and dad.

I learned that people should eat every three to five hours. Otherwise they will have a low metabolism and a bad mood. So, I brought some healthy snacks to eat during the seven minute passing time. I felt the changes immediately.

I was not hungry and tired anymore and I was able to focus more in class. My friends told me that I was always eating something but that I looked smaller and happier than before.

Want To Improve Your Relationships?

Feng Shui and Love

Coffee Trunk Table

Feng Shui involves the balancing of your environment, using energy and compass directions. It is also learning how to attract different kinds of energy through colour, elements, intention and through the movement of chi.

Coffee Trunk Table

By stirring up the energy in your environment, you will have the ability to attract positive energy in various areas of your life. For this month we will look at attracting positive chi towards love, family and happy marriages. Here are some instructions on how to help move the energy within your space to enhance the relationships in your life.

TO ATTRACT A WIFE/HUSBAND

Women Looking for a Husband: She should bring into her home more "Yang Chi". Yang chi is enhanced by the use of bright lights, movement, activity, and sound.

Men Looking for a Wife: He should bring into his home more "Yin Chi". Yin chi is enhanced by dim lights, stillness, rest, and soft sounds.

Men and women looking for mates should display prints depicting happy, loving couples in their home. Birds are excellent energizers for love whether they are real, in a photo, print or imitation. A symbol or print of a dragon and a phoenix are said to be the strongest energizers for love. It is said that they are messengers of "The God of Marriage" who resides in the moon. Lovebirds or mandarin ducks are also very auspicious in pairs to signify undying love and fidelity.

Sleep in your most auspicious direction by placing the crown of your head in that direction.

Add a red or yellow lamp in the SW sector of your bedroom.

Place an earth element object in the SW sector of your home. Crystals are perfect here. The best crystals to use are amethyst and rose quartz as they are highly effective in creating an atmosphere of happiness. They can also be worn as jewellery to manifest their attributes of cheerfulness.

A pair of gold bands or diamond bands worn on your ring finger creates a double-happiness symbol of
marriage.

TO ENHANCE OR RESCUE A MARRIAGE

Neutralize all beams, corners, edges and any poison arrows with Feng Shui remedies. Blocking these sources does not have to be complicated or difficult.

For example:

Place objects in corners of the room to help chi flow easily, thus preventing it from becoming trapped in corners.

If the headboard of your bed is against a toilet wall, move it to another wall preferably in an auspicious direction for both you and your mate.

Neither partner should sleep in their total loss direction.

Ponds/Swimming pools should not be placed to the right of the main door (looking out).

Prevent reflective surfaces from facing the bed causing any reflections in that direction. (TV, mirrors, computer screens, etc.)

Do not place any water features of any kind in the bedroom. No fountains or still water.

Place 7 crystal spheres in the SW corner of the bedroom. Do this to create powerful nurturing chi inside the bedroom. It reduces hostility and raises tolerance.

Place 7 crystal spheres on the centre of the coffee table in the living room to create the same effects. (Note: at least one of the spheres must be rock or quartz crystal.)

A raw amethyst geode tied with red string under the foot of the bed will safeguard against infidelity. Place on the wife's side, if the husband has a roving eye and visa versa if the opposite is true.

Place a small red light near the vicinity of the bed and leave it on through the night bring the couple closer together. This helps to enhance their bond.

Place a red lantern in the bedroom to create the same bonding energy.

Place a print/photo of blooming peonies in the bedroom to enhance attraction toward one another.

The husband should sleep on the left side of the bed (when lying in bed) and the woman on the right to ensure proper balance of yin and yang.

Display only one pair of birds in the bedroom.

Remove all photos of children or anything that is not representative of romance, love and fidelity.

The matrimonial bedroom should only depict the couple within the room with no outsiders.

Whether you choose to do one thing on this list or all the things on this list, remember to first de-clutter and clear the space by either lighting incense, or essential oil, or ringing a bell throughout the room, or opening windows, or letting in sunshine in. These are a few suggestions that you can use to start fresh in the space of your bedroom to starting a new, more improved married life.

Do everything with intention and thoughtfulness to create the most powerful and positive energy in your space.

TO IMPROVE FAMILY ENERGY

The west side of your home and west side of each room is representative of children's luck.

If you are having trouble conceiving, this is the area you would concentrate on as this is where happiness energy arises toward the family.

Shine a bright light on a auspicious object such as a symbol of a child or a family to improve conception luck.

Anything that depicts 100 children is very auspicious. Using images of pomegranates whether real, crystal or wood with a bright or red light shining on it will enhance the conception of children as well.

An elephant in the bedroom with it's trunk down also symbolizes successful conception.

Family portraits in the living room create family closeness and bonding. Each member of the family should be in each photo frame to enhance a close family unit. Everyone should be happy and smiling, on a happy occasion. This will stir up feelings of affection toward one another.

The entrance of your home should depict everyone that lives within the home with the use of objects, decorations or photos that are representative of each member of the family. This could be something as simple as a cheerful family portrait or decorative items that are representative of each person. When people come to your home, they should get a sense of who lives there just by walking into your front hall. This area should also be clutter free, clean, warm and inviting.

Lighting incense daily, ringing a bell, opening windows to let fresh air in, playing pleasant music, the sound of a piano are all auspicious ways of improving the chi within your home and clearing the space of any negative energy.

A daily clearing ritual will help to keep the positive energy or "sheng chi" flowing through your home, thus helping to improve all the relationships within the home.

By implementing some of the above suggestions, you will on your way to improving the relationships in your life and creating a more positive atmosphere within your home.

With that I would like to say,

May peace and harmony be yours.

Furniture in Thailand

Millions of homes today have furniture and many more still want to acquire more. A recent trip to Thailand wowed me with the quality of furniture they produce and I almost could not believe the craftsmanship of Thai hands in woodcarving.

Coffee Trunk Table

After about two hours of drive out of Bangkok's metropolis, our tourist guide woke us up from our sleep and announced our arrival at the Royal Thai Handicraft. He said this furniture plant showcased Thai's ingenuity in woodcarving. The entrance was decorated with vines of lavender flower that gave it its "green" look.

Coffee Trunk Table

To my amazement, as I looked to the left, a man in his 40's smiled at me as he held in his hands a chisel and on the other a small hammer or more like a gavel. He motioned that I took a look at his creation and the moment I did, I was astonished. How in the world did they do this?

The masterpiece that was safely hung on one side and stood out among the rest not only due to the spotlight that gave it much aristocracy, but also due to its sheer splendor and beauty. It was a huge trunk of teakwood that used to look nothing but brown and dark brown specks of wood - no beauty, no significance, and no story. But the moment the man's hands began to painstakingly work on the block of wood, life came out and its story began.

When you look from afar, the work was about forest life with tiny elephants, and monkeys and other forest animals. Then from this 3D like visionary, you would notice that there were butterflies that seemed suspended in air, only attached to a leaf by less than a millimeter of wood. Looking closely, you would find even more interesting facets like vines that intertwined with a tree branch and then a small bird of sparrow figure clinging securely on a tree twig.

I spent minute upon minute examining the minute detail of their genius and exclaiming, "wow" to each new find. Looking around I found more and more astonishing works of art. In this part of the world, furniture is not just a tool to earn; it simply was life for them. This was their expression of themselves; this was their art and their culture.

Each magnificent piece had a price tag though, and the tags hefty! One center table cost 00.00 and yet another living room was priced at a whopping ,500.00. To some, price wasn't what this work was all about. Rather, it's the story and the life that came out of each masterpiece that was shipped out of Thailand. Along with that was that firebrand of excellence and quality that also embodied who they really were at the very confines of their comfort zones. What your home looks like, with all furniture and additives that you can afford, are expressions of your own self, your desires and your living room or bedroom may very well be your own masterpiece.

A really popular foldable bike to enjoy is the i-Ped bike. Like many other kinds of folding bicycles, this one can also be taken just about anywhere. It is especially designed for users to easily carry or ride to any place.

Coffee Trunk Table

People who wish to own one but have limited storage space in the house can benefit from this innovative product. Since it is foldable, any user can easily place it into corners, under the table, or even inside the room. No more problems when it comes to parking or keeping your bike while not in use.

If you are staying in a condominium, apartment, dormitory, studio flats, or any other first-class properties, the i-Ped bike is best for you. You can quickly and easily fold and carry it inside your unit after a day's use.

Leaving it outside or parking it in an open space is no longer necessary. Now you can have a safe and secure storage area. By bringing it inside the room, you can keep it safe from harm or thief. This is one of the biggest benefits you can get from getting a foldable bicycle.

The trouble with storage space is obviously cancelled with the i-Ped bike. Now, you need to deal with the transportation - another concern which most people have. This innovative product allows you to commute to work, convenient store, coffee shop, or anywhere in town.

Visiting the park or your neighbor's house is no longer a problem. So, obviously, an i-Ped user can get rid of the difficulty in meeting your needs when it comes to storage space and transportation.

To achieve convenience and comfort as I have discussed in the earlier paragraphs, all you need to do is to fold up the bike whenever it's not in use.

Also, if you want to bring it with you during vacation or short visit to somewhere, you can easily place is in your car's trunk. It is ultimately foldable, so there's no problem when you want to bring it for your weekend outdoor adventures.

The i-Ped bike is hassle-free, unlike other foldable bikes, this one is modified making it easier for you to fold and unfold.

Moreover, the performance is enhanced despite the easier foldable function integrated into it. The total function of this new product of technology is more improved to further meet the needs of users.

When you buy an i-Ped bike, you will also have the bag which can be conveniently used for it's storage. It is built with aluminum wheels with chrome spokes, steel fender, and hand-controlled front and rear brakes.

It has amazing features of the Kenda 26-inch tires and 6-speed Shimano gear component. It also includes a hand bell ringer, luggage rack, kick stand, and reflectors for safety purposes. The manual or guide on how to fold and unfold the bike properly is also included in the package.

Direct Sales - Tips to Increase Your Dating and Booking Potential

As a Direct Sales consultant, I am always looking for creative ways to increase my party bookings. After all, the majority of your business sales come from home party bookings.

Coffee Trunk Table

Here are 12 great tips that you can use immediately to increase your bookings.

Coffee Trunk Table

1. Offer bonuses for dating on weeknights.

2. Offer bonuses for dating on weekday afternoons.

3. Hold multi-host parties to reduce stress for your party hosts. A multi-host party is when 2-3 hosts pick one location and have one party. Each host invites their own guests and each host earns free products for having their party. They just share the 'party space" and you only have to do one business presentation.

4. Think "outside the house" and consider taking parties to other venues, such as office buildings where your hosts work, community centers, assisted living centers, the park, bowling alley, your local pizza shop, coffee and donut shop, small cafes and diners, church fellowship halls and daycare centers.

5. Contact past party hosts and offer them an incentive to book another show.

6. Contact your customers and offer them an incentive to book a show.

7. Offer parties in a bag, in a box and catalog order parties for hosts who are too busy to host a party in their own home.

8. Offer to let hosts use your home to host their party.

9. Get involved in your community events. Set up table displays advertising your home party opportunity. On display you should have some visuals such as: Dating Gift, Thank You Gift, Booking Gifts, etc. Let your potential hosts see what they can earn for free or for half price! Get out there and meet new people and watch your bookings grow.

10. Party in your trunk! (also known as a 'trunk show'). Take your party on the go: to the park, outdoor music festivals, sporting events, family reunions, neighborhood block parties, flea markets, community yard sale events, etc. The more people see your products, the more apt they are to book a show!

11. Offer mini versions of your home party. If you normally spend 2 hours at the hosts home doing a party, come up with a new shorter version. Some hosts don't want to commit a lot of time hosting a home show, so offer a shorter mini version of your traditional home party.

12. Offer an immediate product reward for booking a show on the spot with you. This should be an inexpensive item from your business product line.

How to Survive the Death of a Child

Losing a child can leave a parent virtually numb and paralyzed regardless of the cause. You will wake up living in a different world and wonder if you can begin to live again? You will wonder if you'll be able to survive another holiday, the childs birthday, or if you'll ever be able to rid yourself of the overwhelming grief. The good news is that yes you can. I speak from personal experience and will show you ways that helped me with my grief. When my four-year old son, Jonathan, passed away, I thought there would never be an end to my grief. Initially the first night he passed, of course, I was in denial and thought, "This cannot be happening to me and my family." I wondered how in the world I could find the strength to walk out of the hospital that night with an empty wheelchair, teddy bears that would never be shared again, and a gut bashing feeling that I in no way shape or form could find joy in life from that moment on.

Coffee Trunk Table

I went through different phases of grief--shock, anger, denial, depression, withdrawn, and finally acceptance. There are many phases of grief. For months, I couldn't stop crying every time I thought of him, saw a child who looked like him, or if someone brought up his name. Even worse, when other people didn't want to talk about him anymore for fear they would hurt me, angered me. I thought, "Why won't you talk about Jonathan? He was a part of my life that I can never toss out like a pair of ripped up jeans." I later learned that people were afraid to say anything for fear they'd upset me.

Coffee Trunk Table

After the shock wore off and the big realization set in that he was never coming back to my arms to be held again, depression set in. I didn't want to go on living. I didn't know how. I have two other sons and a husband. Climbing out of the bed to do for them wasn't exciting anymore. I was so lost in the grief that I thought I would never see the light at the end of a tunnel. I felt as if I had been thrown into a big black pit and that there was no ladder for me to climb out. I found cooking for my other two sons and husband to be a chore. Gazing at my family was hard because every time I looked at one of them I saw a resemblance of the son I lost. I ignored family and friends. To be honest, I didn't want to go on living. I wished that someone would put me out of my misery and even prayed for death to come and take me.

I found myself constantly at his grave, talking to his laminated picture on the tombstone and beating the ground until the backside of my fist throbbed. I thought if another part of my body hurt that surely my heart would stop hurting. I wondered how God could take a heart that was broken into a million pieces and suture it back together. What I didn't realize at the time was that every emotion I was feeling was normal. The turning point for me began shortly after he died, and I would not recommend that anyone do this on purpose. That particular weekend, the cemetery he is buried in had been vandalized. When I went to visit him a few days prior, the ground was solid and so I put different items into the ground around his tombstone--a nautical flag, a hummingbird, and other decorative items. When I arrived, after I heard of the vandalism, these items were all knocked over. I thought that his grave had been vandalized too. I climbed out of my truck in a huff and marched right over to his grave in attempts to pick up the items I was sure that someone took pleasure in vandalizing. Remember the old saying, "Never step on a fresh grave?" Okay, I have to admit I had never heard that before. I no sooner stepped onto his freshly dug grave and went straight down into it, like quick sand pulling me in with a force. Luckily, I was able to hold tight to the ground surrounding it and managed to pull my weighted body out. This was in January, late January so I was freezing. This man drove by in his car and didn't bother to stop and offer me any help and I was thankful. I thought, "You crazy woman, you missed your son so bad you jumped into his grave." This thought made me laugh. I realized I hadn't had that emotion for some time.

I pulled my floor rugs out of my vehicle and began to wipe the mud off of myself. Then I sat on one rug the whole way home. I prayed not to get pulled over by the police for fear they may ask me what happened. I later called the cemetery and explained what had happened. The woman who answered laughed and said, "You're not the first one to ever experience this." That made me feel a ton better. I say this was my turning point because I realized that if I would've died that day, my husband and other boys would have more turmoil to deal with. I had been caught up in my own grief and didn't realize they too were suffering. After this day, I will not say the change came all of a sudden. I took measures to make it happen. I logged onto the internet and joined a grief support network for grieving parents. These parents had been through issues such as myself so they could relate. I started a "Happy Journal" and put it at the foot of my bed onto my grandmother's trunk. In this book, my family was encouraged to write happy memories about Jonathan. I ordered a book called "Roses in December" and read how this mother survived her losses. I started a journal about his life and his after life. For the after life part, I wrote poems about what Jonathan might be doing now and found comfort in what I thought it was he was doing. I wrote letters to him. Every time I wrote a poem about him, I passed out copies to everyone I knew.

Eventually, I had to swallow my pride and go to counseling. My therapist told me that I was doing all the right things and that I must go through each step of the grief process and embrace each emotion. This was important to the healing phase. You must embrace each emotion as if it were your child you would embrace. You have to go through that emotion. There will be phases that you will think you won't recover from, and there will be times you will say, "I already experienced that phase, so why am I back there?" And you will believe that acceptance will never come, but it will. Let's talk about the grief emotions you must embrace. First is shock--I can't believe this happened. Denial--I can't believe this happened to me, no it didn't happen. I refuse to believe it. Anger--This is my fault, it's the doctors fault, or you might have someone else who you feel caused the death. The next phase is withdrawn and depression, I might add. You will feel blue. You won't want to get out of bed. You'll wish people would go away and leave you alone and let you drown in a sea of self pity. Things you found pleasure in, will no longer be appealing. The last stage is Acceptance: When you realize that you will never forget your child, but you also accept the fact that you can go on living without them. Most times, this causes guilt. You'll think if I go on living and find happiness again then this must mean that I have forgot my child. No. This is not the case and it will never be the case. I can assure you that you will never forget your bundle of joy. You will eventually realize that just because you go on living doesn't mean that you have forgotten your child. Keep in mind that everyone experiences these phases in different ways. No two people are alike. You might even find yourself regressing back to a stage you thought you'd overcome. That is normal, but you must embrace each phase and go through it in order to heal.

Other ways to help you cope: Talk openly with all the family members. Set aside one day a week or even a month to where each person talks about the deceased child and shares with other family members what is bothering them and what they remember that makes them laugh, or what is helping them to cope. Write a book about your child and how you survived. Write poetry. Make a scrapbook of the child and sit it on the living room coffee table to share with others. Find a craft or a hobby that you enjoy. Start a blog about grief and encourage other parents to post their thoughts. One way to do this is at myspace.com Joining is free and you can start your own blogs. Talk about your child as often as you want. If depression is an issue, go to a professional counselor and get an objective view. If the grief is so severe you feel like you can't go on, seek out a doctor who will help you and he/she may prescribe short term medication to help alleviate some of the symptoms of depression. Dedicate a garden in your back yard to the deceased child and pick out plants that remind you of when the child took his first steps, crawled, took a leap of faith, the possibilities are endless. During the first few holidays, take a vacation if feasible, somewhere that is relaxing and has a lot of sun. On his/her next birthday, bake them cake and buy them a present for their grave. At the party by the graveside, have another brother or sister blow out the candles. We have done this for years now and it is very heart felt by all of us. It reassures us that even though we have gone on living that we didn't stop caring.

Most important don't ever be afraid to ask for help. In the months to follow the death of a child, allow yourself to keep a dirty house, or ask someone else to clean it for you. Don't add more unnecessary grief. Always talk to your spouse or partner about the loss. Don't blame each other or get angry at each other if one feels the other one reached the acceptance stage sooner. Acceptance will come if you allow yourself to feel the pain. Try to picture a wound that is deep. First comes pain, then you cleanse it, then you treat it, and then it heals. You can't just put a bandaid over it without all the other steps or the wound could get infected, or might not heal properly if there is a disease process such as diabetes involved.

And if you believe in God, talk to him as much as possible about your loss. Remember he too, suffered the loss of his son, and he feels our pain. He loves us and said he would never leave or forsake us. For some reason, I found myself angry at him at first. I thought "Why! Why did you give me a child with a disability and have me fall in love with him and take him away?" What I came to realize is that God is a loving God. He wants us to share our pain with him. You are not alone was what everyone kept telling me and eventually I learned that I wasn't. I hope this article has been a help to you. You can go to your library and check out books on grieving the loss of a child. "Roses in December" I would definitely recommend.
